Oscar Tshiebwe Signs Two-Way Contract with the Indiana Pacers
A Kentucky Wildcats Legend
Oscar Tshiebwe, the former University of Kentucky basketball player, has signed a two-way contract with the Indiana Pacers after going undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft. Tshiebwe, who is considered one of the best players to ever wear the blue and white of Kentucky, will now have the opportunity to pursue his dream of playing in the NBA.
Understanding Tshiebwe’s Decision
Before questioning Tshiebwe’s decision not to return to Kentucky, it’s important to recognize that he knew his path to the NBA wouldn’t be easy. While being drafted would have been a significant accomplishment, signing a two-way contract is still a step toward his ultimate goal. Tshiebwe will have the chance to showcase his skills during summer league play and prove himself to the Pacers and other NBA teams.
During the NBA Combine, Tshiebwe displayed flashes of dominance, which he will aim to build on this summer. As a former 5-star prospect, he understands that reaching the next level requires hard work, determination, and intentional development. Given his strong work ethic and talent, it’s not difficult to imagine Tshiebwe having a successful career, whether it be in the NBA or another professional league.
A Legacy at Kentucky
Oscar Tshiebwe will forever be remembered as one of the best players to have ever played for the Kentucky Wildcats. His National Player of the Year season was extraordinary and unlikely to be replicated in the foreseeable future. Throughout his two seasons in Lexington, Tshiebwe consistently impressed with his performance on the court.
Tshiebwe’s rebounding ability was particularly noteworthy. He amassed an astonishing 1,317 rebounds, including his time at West Virginia, and was a double-double machine. During his final season at Kentucky, Tshiebwe led the team with 16.5 points and a nation-leading 13.7 rebounds per game. He ranks among the all-time career leaders in rebounds, double-doubles, and scoring in program history.
Although Tshiebwe didn’t experience much success in the NCAA Tournament, his individual performances were exceptional. In the 2022 loss to Saint Peter’s, Tshiebwe played for 43 minutes, grabbed 16 rebounds, and scored 30 points. Similarly, in the Cats’ recent tournament loss to Kansas State, he contributed 25 points and 18 rebounds. Despite these impressive displays, the team fell short of achieving deep tournament runs.
Farewell, Oscar Tshiebwe
The Big O, as Tshiebwe is affectionately known, will always be remembered as one of the best to ever play at Kentucky. His impact on the program will not be forgotten, and the Big Blue Nation wishes him the best in his NBA endeavors.
Whether Tshiebwe ends up having a long, lucrative career in the NBA or excels in another professional league, there is no doubt that his talent and determination will propel him to success. As fans, we can anticipate watching him continue to develop and make an impact on the basketball court.
Thank you, Oscar Tshiebwe, for your contributions to Kentucky basketball. Your legacy as one of the greats will live on, and we hope to see you shine in the NBA.
