Lexus Unveils Redesigned GX SUV with Off-road Capability

Lexus has recently unveiled the redesigned GX SUV model with a more rugged, boxy look that highlights its off-road prowess. The 2024 GX marks the new beginning for the carmaker’s ” GX line” that was first introduced in 2002. Inspired by GX customers who enjoy “refined outdoor experiences,” the 2024 GX is designed to bridge the gap between legendary off-road capability and luxurious everyday driving.

Exterior and Interior Design

The new GX looks significantly different from the previous generation, with blockier and more enlarged dimensions but still featuring Lexus‘s spindle body concept with a more rugged look. Lexus designers emphasized the SUV’s off-road functionality with significant changes, including raised headlamps, a higher grille opening, and an L-shaped light bar at the back, giving it a unique identity. Furthermore, the new command panel highlights a 12.3-inch driver’s display and a 14-inch central multimedia screen. The cabin interior of the GX embodies luxury with ideal leather accents and spacious seating. The SUV can accommodate up to seven passengers, with a smaller third-row seating area best suited for children. Plenty of storage and tech features are offered in the new GX SUV, including 12 cup holders, six charging ports, and a wireless charging pad.

The Overtrail Trim

The Overtrail is a new trim in the GX line, designed to enhance off-roading capability and has style and mechanical upgrades. It has a bigger all-terrain tire and an electronic locking differential that helps to improve traction for both on-road and off-road driving. Further, the Overtrail+ grade comes with an exclusive seat design for optimal off-road comfort, with massage features and a cushion extender for the driver. Exclusive bi-tone colors are also offered for Overtrail customers to “create a cohesive relationship with the outdoors via calming earth tones that blend in with nature.”

Performance and Price

All-new GX models come with standard four-wheel drive, and Lexus has replaced the previous engine with a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 and a 10-speed transmission, which contributes to overall better performance, both on and off-road. The twin-turbo V6 engine produces 349 horsepower, compared to the previous generation’s 301 horsepower with a V8. Although the pricing details have not been announced yet for all the trims, the current pricing starts from AED 260,000 in the UAE.

Editorial and Advice

Lexus‘s redesigned GX SUV is a breakthrough that offers versatility between off-road capabilities and luxurious everyday driving. The addition of the Overtrail trim emphasizes the brand’s commitment to exceptional off-road performance and style. However, before buying the SUV, consumers must note that the third-row seats are best for children and that it is quite expensive, with the current price starting from AED 260,000. Nonetheless, if you prioritize SUV’s off-road performance and luxury, Lexus GX SUV is among the best options in the market.
