Phillies Organize ALS Awareness Night to Raise Funds for Patient Services and Research
On June 5, the Philadelphia Phillies will organize the ALS Awareness Night presented by Cytokinetics to mark Lou Gehrig Day and continue their partnership with The ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter. Since 1984, the Phillies have been working to #StrikeOutALS, raising over $21 million for patient services, research, and awareness initiatives. Furthermore, the club is attempting to surpass last year’s previous record-setting amount of $344,000 raised for individuals fighting this ailment.
Recognizing ALS and Commitment to the Cause
ALS Awareness Night is set to honor the legacy of Lou Gehrig, who passed away from the disease that now bears his name. The Phillips family, whose board chair lost her husband to ALS, will also be recognized for their tireless devotion to raising funds and awareness for the cause. Phillies’ President, John Weber, expressed the importance of the mission, stating the organization’s efforts to support families affected by ALS stretch back nearly four decades. Echoing the Phillies’ commitment to the cause, Ellyn Phillips extended her gratitude to the franchise for their unparalleled commitment to the ALS cause.
ALS Patient Testimonials
The on-field tribute will commence at 6.15 pm, highlighting the stories of patients who are battling the incurable disease. Eric Brunner, a 36-year-old season ticket holder and Phillies fan with a young family, John Metts, a former councilman in Delaware County, and Holly Tomkovicz, a big supporter of the ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter and Walk to Defeat ALS Philadelphia with three children, will be recognized. Additionally, ESPN Senior Writer, Tim Kurkjian, will take part in the tribute, following his family’s ordeal with the illness.
Fund-Raising Activities
In partnership with Cytokinetics and the ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter, the Philadelphia Phillies have devised an array of initiatives designed to raise funds and awareness for ALS. ALS Awareness Phillies Theme Night Ticket available for purchase during the June 5 game, with $4 per ticket donated to the cause. Phillies Grab Bags filled with autographed memorabilia and giveaways will also be available for purchase at the First Base and Third Base entrance plazas for $30 each. In addition, fans can participate in the Phillies Charities, Inc. 50/50 Drawing, with proceeds benefiting The ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter. Baseball enthusiasts can also bid online for unique memorabilia and experiences at Phillies.com/lougehrigauction until June 5, with all resulting revenues set to benefit The ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter.

ALS is a rare neurological disease that affects the nerve cells responsible for muscle function control, leading to their progressive degeneration and paralysis. ALS is incurable; however, increased awareness and fund-raising initiatives have proven pivotal in the development of patient services and research programs.
