The Purpose of the NASA Study Team
NASA’s independent study team is not meant to determine the possible origins of the UAPs that have been seen moving through restricted military airspace over the past several decades. Instead, the team aims to evaluate and study the phenomena using technology and data. During the study, data collection remains a crucial stage, as many events have conventional explanations. However, there remain events that we do not understand, and the team has stressed the need for high-quality data from multiple observations to assess the phenomena.
Global Monitoring of UAPs
NASA is also interested in enlisting the help of citizen scientists by designing an app people could use to record data and upload it to a website for tracking UAP, which would be “a great citizen science opportunity,” according to the team led by astrophysicist David Spergel.
NASA‘s Interest in UAPs
NASA has long been tasked with finding life elsewhere and developing programs to explore the mysteries of the universe. However, the study of UAPs differs from the Pentagon and intelligence community’s research, with NASA’s interest focused on scientific evaluation and assessment. The study is aimed at assessing the risks that may accompany the phenomena while looking to answer the question of whether they have natural origins or unexplained ones. In conclusion, NASA intends to propose a research program based on these UAP studies to increase scientific evaluation and scrutiny of these events.
