Domination of Manchester United
Casemiro‘s spinning volley from a Christian Eriksen delivery in the 9th minute was the only goal of the game, and the Red Devils managed to hold onto their lead for the rest of the match, despite being given several opportunities by a limited Bournemouth side. The Cherries were missing influential midfielder Philip Billing, and it showed on the field. However, they still had their chances, and United needed a sensational save by goalkeeper David De Gea in the 84th minute to deny Kieffer Moore on a 1-on-1.
Manchester United has been playing exceptionally well under the leadership of Erik ten Hag, who has managed to guide the team to a Carabao Cup victory, a final against Manchester City in the FA Cup, and now a top-four position in the Premier League which marks an incredible first season in charge for him.
United’s Attack
United struggled in the attack in the absence of Marcus Rashford, which has been the story since they lost Jesse Lingard, who was recalled by West Ham. The team is not the same without the duo’s driving runs, and Casemiro brought much-needed inspiration to the squad with his first-half goal. Antony was inefficient, Sancho was invisible, Martial was not impactful, and Wout Weghorst was quiet outside of a lone shot on goal. The only criticism was that United didn’t score the second goal that would have killed off the game.
Sancho’s Poor Form
Ten Hag would be concerned with Jadon Sancho’s form, who has not been the superstar that fans expected since joining United from Borussia Dortmund. The teenage Argentine winger, Alejandro Garnacho, is impressing as a super-sub and is now pushing for a starting position in the team. This match will only fuel the cries of the fans for his inclusion in the team instead of Sancho. The 23-year-old has three more seasons left on his United contract, but without his trademark speed and dribbling abilities, it’s unclear how he can help the team move forward.
Final Thoughts
Manchester United is in a formidable position, considering they have their final two games at home, where they have shown title-caliber form. They only need one point to seal a Champions League place, and their fans would look forward to Men United taking the top-flight competition by storm in the 2023/24 season. While the future looks bright for United, the club needs to address their weaknesses, especially the reliance on Rashford and Ling
