# Boxing World Championships: Upset Wins for Indian Boxers Deepak and Hussamuddin

The World boxing championships in Tashkent has brought some good news for Indian boxing fans, as two Indian boxers made their way into the quarterfinals after some stunning performances. Deepak Bhoria in the 51 kg category and Mohammad Hussamuddin in the 57 kg category have made the country proud with their victories.

Deepak Bhoria’s victory was particularly impressive, as he defeated defending champion and Olympic bronze medallist Saken Bibosinov from Kazakhstan in the round-of-32 contest. Bhoria displayed some brilliant combinations when he found the Kazakh within his reach. However, he narrowly lost the first round 2-3. With his hit-and-move strategy, Bhoria kept his opponent at bay for most of the second round before Bibosinov raised the tempo to stay marginally ahead. Despite being behind, Bhoria fought his heart out and connected some lovely straight ones and hooks in the final period in a fast exchange of punches and won a favourable verdict. The final score was 5-2 after the review of the bout.

In an interview after his victory, Bhoria said that his target was to play with patience and gather as many points as possible. He added that he and his coaches had worked on luring his opponent with the right punch before using his hook to good effect, and that every bout was important for him. For Bhoria, this match was like a final match, and he played it that way.

Bhoria’s next opponent will be Zhang Jiamao of China in the pre-quarterfinals. It will be interesting to see if Bhoria can maintain his winning ways and secure his place in the semi-finals.

In the 57 kg category, Mohammad Hussamuddin toppled fourth-seeded Eduard Savvin from Russia 5-0 in the round-of-16 stage to set up a quarterfinal clash with fifth-seeded European bronze medallist Javier Ibanez Diaz of Bulgaria. Hussamuddin executed eye-catching body and head shots on the taller Russian, who threw blows from a long range. He claimed the first round 4-1 and defended and countered well to stay unaffected when Savvin displayed more aggression. His fine assortment of punches helped him keep the gritty Russian in check by securing a 4-0 decision in his favour in the second round.

It is good to see Indian boxers performing well at the World boxing championships, especially after the country’s lackluster performance at the Tokyo Olympics. These victories show that India has some talented boxers who can perform well at the international level. The country needs to give its boxers more support and recognition, so that they can continue to improve and achieve success in the future.

In conclusion, the victories of Deepak Bhoria and Mohammad Hussamuddin at the World boxing championships in Tashkent are a source of pride for Indian boxing fans. These young boxers have shown that India has some up-and-coming talent in the sport. As they progress in the tournament, it will be interesting to see if they can reach the semi-finals and maybe even the finals.
