Verstappen’s win not only extended his lead over Pérez in the season points race to a more comfortable 14, but also re-established him as the best driver on Formula 1’s best team. The win sets him up as the favorite to win upcoming races, as well. While Red Bull is dominating this season, viewers are left wondering if Formula 1 is losing its element of surprise.
The Miami Grand Prix was typical of most of this season’s races, with no questions regarding who will win, but rather which Red Bull driver will win. Pérez started the race from pole position, but Verstappen quickly caught up and overtook him. Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin finished third, which has been his fourth such finish in five starts.
The Formula 1 season is heavily anticipated, but its predictability is a cause for concern among fans. The winner of the races is always one of the Red Bull drivers, but the question of which one adds some suspense. Other teams, such as Mercedes, continue to make improvements, with George Russell finishing fourth and Lewis Hamilton finishing in sixth place, despite starting 13th. The team is making strides in the right direction.
Amid this predictability, Alonso’s satisfaction with his third-place finish is telling. It is a feeling of victory to anyone but Red Bull, who are clearly outperforming the other teams. The saying “best in class” can be used to describe Red Bull’s performance, but it appears to be a two-team race this season with no surprises or challengers.
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Italy is the next race, taking place at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari on May 21. Racing fans anticipate another Red Bull win.
